Ravi Industries Ltd., a company incorporated in Sri Lanka in 1962, for manufacturing and selling brushes in the local market was acquired by the Hayleys Group of companies in 1975. Hayleys Group of companies is one of Sri Lanka’s most respected and highly diversified public companies, quoted in Colombo stock exchange. With the acquisition of Ravi Industries Ltd., Hayleys Ltd. which was up to then known for it’s primary commodity exports, ventured into value added brush export market. In 1976 Borstelfabriek Vero of the Netherlands, a reputed brush and broom manufacturer in Europe, acquired a share of Ravi Industries Ltd. Making use of vast manufacturing and marketing expertise of Vero, Ravi Industries Ltd. was able to enter international market, within a short period of time. Today Ravi Industries Ltd. is known worldwide as a supplier of high quality brushware.
Presently Ravi Industries specializes in manufacturing and exporting of brushes and brooms and has been in operation for more than forty years. Needless to say, Ravi Industries manufactures a wide range of high-quality Brushes and Brush products to suit your every need. Utilizing natural fibre brush filling materials such as Coco, Palmyrah, Arenga, etc., Ravi Industries essentially manufactures both domestic and industrial brushes using mainly rubber-wood backs. It also manufactures products of a plastic range using polypropylene backs. Synthetic fibers and mixed fibers are also used on some customized products.
Ravi Industries’ hi-tech, state-of-the-art production plant is equipped with CNC controlled brush making machines sourced from GB Boucherie NV, Schlesinger Maschinenbau and Zahoransky. In addition to this plant, with 200,000 sq.ft. of factory floor space, the company has a large sub-contracting network, mainly for the production of timber brush backs.
Ravi Industries Ltd. is presently the largest exporter of brushes and other cleaning devices in Sri Lanka. Having pioneered, the brush industry, the Company currently accounts for approximately 50% of brushes / brush blocks exported from the country. Along with a highly regarded market position to sell both Wooden and Plastic Brushware in both the local and export markets. Ravi Industries maintains a professional efficiency, which affords the company ‘lead-time’ acceptable to its buyers. This credibility alone lends reliability and consistency to the organization’s esteem and much lauded reputation. Presently the company exports over 55 containers of its products monthly to Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Australia, the Middle East, South Korea, Singapore, USA , Japan. etc.
With a modest beginning of just a handful of employees, Ravi Industries Ltd. currently provides employment directly and indirectly to over a thousand people. In 1998 Ravi Industries Ltd. became one of Asia’s first brush manufacturers to receive the ISO 9001 certification from DNV, the globally renowned Dutch certification agency. In addition, the company has been awarded the Prestigious Presidential Export Award for outstanding performance in the field of manufacturing and exporting of Brushes and Brooms on several occasions. Ravi Industries also obtained the ISO 14001 environmental management systems certificate in 2004, another formidable accomplishment that will benefit both the company as well as its ever-expanding global customer base.
An eco-friendly manufacturer, Ravi Industries Ltd. is also committed to preserving the natural environment, the very source of the company’s raw materials. As such Ravi Industries Ltd. became the first brush manufacturer in Sri Lanka to produce brushes in accordance with regulations stipulated by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), a certification which assures that the timber used to manufacture brushes is obtained only from well-managed plantations. Only plantations that maintain environmental-friendly standards in areas such as soil erosion and pollution control, etc. are issued with this certification. The rubber timber used by the company is a renewable source, where trees are re-planted every thirty years after being tapped for latex.
